Museum & Gallery Shows: David Hockney – A Bigger Picture: “..The Royal Academy of Arts presents the first major exhibition of new landscape works by David Hockney RA. Featuring vivid paintings inspired by the East Yorkshire landscape, these large-scale works have been created especially for the galleries at the Royal Academy of Arts.  ‘David Hockney RA: A Bigger Picture’ spans a 50 year period to demonstrate Hockney’s long exploration and fascination with the depiction of landscape.  The exhibition includes a display of his iPad drawings and a series of new films produced using 18 cameras, which are displayed on multiple screens and provide a spellbinding visual journey through the eyes of David Hockney.”  21 January – 9 April 2012, Royal Academy of Arts, London.  Magnificent..

iPad Drawing by David Hockney

Martin Gayford has written an article entitled “David Hockney’s IPad Doodles Resemble High-Tech Stained Glass” for in which the wonderful 72-year old artist speaks, quite charmingly, about his love of the iPhone and his even greater love for the iPad and how they have set him free on a luminous path.  Marvelous, lovely!  Though should we call any of Hockney’s sketches doodles?

Hockney + Hollywood + Yorkshire: Portraits, Landscapes And iPhones

Posted by the editors on Sunday, 18 October 2009

David Hockney’s upcoming shows at the PaceWildenstein Galleries in NYC (opening 23 October 2009 at the West 57th street location and 29 October 2009 at the West 25th street location), Hockney’s first shows in New York in over 12 years, provide the ideal context to look once again at the man and his work:  iconoclast and traditionalist.

Let’s start with a thoughtful article, “David Hockney’s Long Road Home” by Carol Kino, in the Art & Design section of The New York Times (online).

David Hockney, at, described as “The only authorized David Hockney website – a work in progress, including this page!”, a lively (of course!) and wonderfully complete (as complete as a work in progress can and should be) look at, it seems, almost all things Hockney.

David Hockney, in Wikipedia, for those who feel so inclined.
