Marilyn Monroe & Phillipe Halsman Jump!

One of our favorite arts journalists, Roberta Smith, has written a short, inspiring article entitled “The Joys of Jumpology” in the Art & Design section of The New York Times (online) looking at the “quirky and fun-filled” exhibition, entitled “Philippe Halsman: Jump” (through Friday at the Laurence Miller Gallery, 20 West 57th Street, Manhattan; (212) 397-3930, laurencemillergallery.com), of some of the work of the photographer Philippe Halsman.  The photos are all of greater or lesser known people (Harold Lloyd, Aldous Huxley, Bridget Bardot, those mentioned in the title, and others) following Halsman’s one-word direction, “Jump.”  The results are without a doubt marvelous, even astonishing.

The article includes a wonderful slide show, here.
