Original Movie Poster

The Plainsman, 1937, (DVD), directed by Cecil B. DeMille, with Gary Cooper and Jean Arthur.  In this impossible mash-up of history and geography, Gary Cooper, as Wild Bill Hickok and Jean Arthur, as Calamity Jane, do their handsome, lovely and charming best, but still don’t have what it takes to redeem this disastrous film.  Cooper, as the Plainsman of few words, and Jean Arthur, as a feisty, and indeed calamitous, Calamity Jane are indeed what stars are made of , though one can’t help but imagine that each found themselves under some sort of contractual obligation to be involved in such a truly terrible film.  Go ahead and see The Plainsman anyway for Cooper’s tall good looks and six-gun twirling, and Jean Arthur’s snappy way with a whip. (PR)

We recommend that you buy your DVDs.  Have a wonderful personal film library..
