After 1500 years, Peru Again Courting Ecosystem Disaster With The Same Tree!!

Posted by pjlr on Sunday, 8 November 2009

In what by any crystal ball is clearly no coincidence, the massive huarango tree again plays a decisive role in an imminent ecosystem disaster in Peru.  Simon Romero has written an article entitled “Ecosystem in Peru Is Losing a Key Ally” in the Americas section of The New York Times (online) and unlike the immediately preceding Nothingisinvisible post “Trees Cut Down, Their Civilisation Comes To An End” whose subject is an ancient Peruvian ecosystem disaster (more than 1500 years ago), Romero’s article covers a disaster in the making featuring the very same huarango tree!

Enough already.  Will we never learn?!  Well, apparently not.
